So I thought THE BONE SEASON wrecked me but hahahahahaha NO. THE BONE SEASON wrecked me to a point, but THE MIME ORDER wrecked me to a level that I didn't even know I had within myself. You know the skull emoji?? That was basically me by the time I finished this book.
Can we also just take a moment of silence to take in the glory that is this cover?? IT. IS. STUNNING. If I could make this cover design wallpaper, I WOULD. Anyway, enough drooling, let's commence onto the rest of this post!
T H O U G H T S & FEEEEELINGS I H A D W H I L E R E A D I N G :
- I did struggle to get right into it up until the second chapter but after that there was no going back.
- Samantha Shannon writes the most cinematic fight/action scenes everrrr. The rose ring part of the book is one of the most cinematic scenes I’ve read since Harry Potter for the first time.
- I think I could easily fill a whole blog post and several hours just writing about Paige and Warden. Besides shipping them like I’m about to drown, it’s nice to read a romance/blossoming relationship between two consenting adults that’s also in a really weird situation and they’re SELF-AWARE about it. The fact that Warden used to be Paige’s keeper, the fact he’s Rephaim and she’s Human, the age/centuries between them...it’s not shrugged off. It’s not made less than what the situation is. They know it and they’re aware and they’re not diving into anything really fast. It’s just nice not to read a toxic relationship/romance between two adults that’s slow and takes times ok!!
- I love slow burn but MO took it to another level. Give me strength because I friggin need it. I wanted so much more but at the same time I’m really glad MO didn’t take the tired route of focusing on the romance and forgetting everything else. Again it subtly reminded the reader that the relationship/romance between Warden and Paige is PART of the story not THE story.
- I love seeing Samantha Shannon’s writing growth from TBS to TMO! In these two books so far her writing skills has improved x10 and I’m so excited to see where it goes in her future books.
- THE MIME ORDER does not suffer from shitty sequel syndrome which was such a relief! And I loved that the tiny things that irked me in BS was build up for MO and MO flowed so smoothly, so well was so clever...I am so impressed.
- This book is so well written and delicious it makes time fly. It’s really long and I do have quibbles with the pacing especially around the beginning but it doesn’t feel like a huge length of a book even though it is lol.
- Samantha Shannon shines in characters bus she also has a wicked hand at plot. The twists wrecked me and I actually saw only one of them coming, the rest got me like standing on piece of lego in the middle of the night does.
- One word: JAXON. If I could reach through a book, I would've strangled Jaxon with my BARE FUCKING HANDS.
- THE EEEEEEEEENDING *high pitched screaming*
